Leading music streamer Boomplay recently unveiled their end-of-year charts showing Ghana’s top songs, albums and artists trending in 2023. The comprehensive recap offers a fascinating snapshot of the nation’s music tastes over the past year.
Kicking things off, Boomplay highlighted breakout stars Black Sherif, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy as the top 3 male artists Ghanian fans streamed in 2023. On the female side, sultry songstress Wendy Shay snagged the #1 spot ahead of giants like Diana Antwi Hamilton and Gyakie.
Getting into top tracks, Black Sherif and Sarkodie also dominated as the overall most-streamed Ghanaian acts. And King Promise claimed the highest number of chart-topping hits over the year. Gospel favorites Piesie Esther, Celestine Donkor and Nacee took the category for most streamed holy hymns.
In terms of full projects, Blacko’s acclaimed “The Villain I Never Was” record unsurprisingly racked up the highest engagement. But Sarkodie and Stonebwoy also saw their latest long players connect widely with listeners.
Finally, Boomplay revealed emerging talents like Banzy Banero, Olivetheboy and Skyface SDW as their 2023 picks for rising Ghanaian stars to watch. The streaming giant praised their budding potential.
