Veteran fashion icon and media titan KOD recently bestowed some high praise on dancehall star Stonebwoy. In a new interview, he dubbed Stonebwoy Ghana’s most hardworking musician heading into 2023.
Speaking to Johnny Hughes on 3FM, KOD applauded Stonebwoy’s tireless grind to put Ghanaian music on the map. However, he expressed frustration that Stonebwoy’s success hasn’t translated proportionately into rewards and recognition back home.
“Look at someone like Stonebwoy – I think for 2023 he is arguably Ghana’s most hardworking musician,” KOD declared. “But what is that hard work quantifying to locally? In terms of actual money earned from his copyright, I don’t think we can measure it.”
KOD elaborated that depending solely on Ghanaian systems would financially shortchange creatives like Stonebwoy, no matter how popular they become worldwide.

The fashion icon explained that securing adequate compensation as an artist in Ghana requires aggressive persistence. Passively waiting for opportunities or support rarely pays off.
“Belonging to the creative space here is like being a teacher – your real reward will probably only come in heaven,” KOD analogized. “You have to intentionally break doors and windows to force opportunities to happen.”
While Stonebwoy’s accolades continue to pile up abroad, KOD’s evaluation spotlights the need for more infrastructure to help Ghanaian talents thrive at home. He challenges both artists and industry gatekeepers to continue pushing boundaries and improving systems.
