Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy recently had the honor of sharing the stage with legendary Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo at a major concert in London. Kidjo performed at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall on November 17th in celebration of her prolific 40-year music career.
Stonebwoy was one of the special guest artists who performed alongside Kidjo at the landmark show. In a video clip posted to Facebook, Stonebwoy is seen joining Kidjo onstage as they thrill the crowd with an energetic duet fusing African and reggae rhythms. Among the songs performed was “Manodzi,” on which Stonebwoy featured Angelique on his 5th Dimension album. They also ran through other Angelique Kidjo classics together onstage.
“A Child Who Washes His Hands Well, Eats With Elders. Indeed, Dreams Do Come True,” Stonebwoy captioned the video recapping his appearance.
The Royal Albert Hall concert capped off a string of 40th anniversary tour dates for the four-time Grammy Award winner Angelique Kidjo. She was backed by the Chineke! Orchestra and joined by other featured artists like Laura Mvula, Ibrahim Maalouf and Youssou Ndour.
But for Stonebwoy, sharing such a symbolic stage with a trailblazing African great like Kidjo marked a special milestone in his own career. The Ghanaian star expressed gratitude for Kidjo inspiring, believing in, and giving him the opportunity to perform alongside her.
Stonebwoy has long credited Kidjo as one of his foremost musical heroes. Her spirit of pan-African collaboration aligns with his own ethos and desire to uplift new generations of African music. Their joyful live collaboration exemplified the power of genres blending across borders.
