Ed Sheeran and Passenger Reminisce Early Days of Friendship and “Let Her Go”

In recent social media posts, superstars Ed Sheeran and Passenger nostalgically looked back on their early friendship, including the first time Ed heard what would become Passenger’s smash hit “Let Her Go.”

In his post, Ed recalled Passenger playing him an acoustic version of “Let Her Go” backstage in 2011, before it was recorded or released. Ed immediately sensed the song’s specialness, though he “couldn’t have guessed how insanely massive it would be.”

Ed’s favorite memory was years later, when Passenger’s “Let Her Go” hit #1 in Netherlands on the same day Ed headlined a show with Passenger opening.

Passenger also shared his own touching post about that night and their serendipitous friendship that started years earlier. He too recalled the magic of Ed hearing “Let Her Go” for the first time.

Passenger spoke on how they’d both played tiny pub gigs together as up-and-comers and formed a bond. He remembered the goosebumps of watching Ed’s star rise at that career-defining show.

Now, Ed lending his voice to a special 10-year re-recorded version of “Let Her Go” commemorates their journey from “empty pubs to where we are now.”

Their respective posts highlight how even global superstars never forget their humble beginnings. Ed and Passenger’s enduring friendship started with a chance meeting at a small show. Their nostalgic trip down memory lane celebrates how far they’ve come together.
