With her soaring vocals, contemporary style, and widespread appeal, Priscilla “CeCe” Winans earned the moniker the “First Lady of Gospel Music.” As one half the trailblazing duo CeCe & BeBe, Winans modernized the gospel genre for a new generation of listeners.
Winans got her start singing in Nashville churches as a young girl. When she teamed up with her brother BeBe to form an R&B-infused gospel act, the duo brought youthful energy to traditional gospel praise songs. Their catchy radio hits like “Heaven” and “Lost Without You” topped both Christian and mainstream charts in the 1980s-90s.
As a solo artist, Winans continued evolving the gospel sound with pop-savvy ballads layered with her magnificent mezzo-soprano range. Her 1997 smash “Count on Me” showcased Winans’ signature velvety runs and growls that sent fans into raptures.
Now in her 60s, Winans continues performing her inspirational anthems for devoted audiences worldwide. She has won over a dozen Grammys and Dove Awards, along with spots in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Eight of her albums have been certified gold.
